Revenue launches error-beating ‘toolkits’

27/05/2010

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has launched a range of six free ‘toolkits’ designed to help financial advisers to avoid common errors when filling out their clients’ returns.

The guides feature checklists, links to online guidance and examples of frequently-made mistakes and how to avoid them.

There are guides covering Capital Gains Tax for land and buildings, Marginal Small Companies’ relief, Private and Personal expenditure (Income Tax Self Assessment), Trust and Estates, Capital Gains Tax for trust and estates (supplement) and Capital Allowances for plant and machinery.

HMRC says it has worked closely with advisers and professional accountancy bodies to develop the toolkits, which were piloted by around 600 firms and advisers last year.

The toolkits can be downloaded from http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/agents/prereturn-support-agents.htm.
