Inspectors in new drive to raise cash
24/08/2010
We have recently received reports of a new drive by inspectors at HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to bring in as much money as possible during the current fiscal year.
This may mean more long-term cases being settled, or inspectors moving to take up cases which are likely to be resolved more quickly in the future.
With the public finances increasing pressure for the government to bring in more money from wherever possible, it is likely the number of enquiries will increase over the coming months.
We have also heard that HMRC may be about to return to a system of ‘single’ case working as the current ‘cross tax’ framework has not proved successful in reducing costs or delays.
We will keep our clients informed with any further developments.
