BERR is no more

The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), which has been in existence for less than two years, has merged with the Department for Universities, Innovation and Skills (DIUS) to create a new ‘super-department’ headed up by Lord Mandelson.

The department is now known as the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). According to the government, its key role will be to ‘build Britain’s capabilities to compete in the global economy’, as the government attempts to prepare Britain’s economy for the opportunities that present themselves once the current downturn comes to an end, for example in low-carbon technology.

A new website is in the process of being created, but in the meantime, information aimed at business will continue to be provided at www.berr.gov.uk.
