Penalties warning on late NI returns

03/04/2009

Employers who have failed to submit their 2007-08 P11D(b) Class 1A national insurance annual returns are being urged to do so as quickly as possible.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is currently sending penalty notices to any employer who has failed to submit the return. The returns should have been received by HMRC by 6 July 2008.

Employers will be charged £100 per 50 employees for each month their return is outstanding.

HMRC has also written to employers who submitted the returns on time but received an incorrect penalty notice to apologise and cancel the notice.

Any employer who has not received an apology letter but thinks that the penalty is wrong should contact HMRC on 0845 7 143 143.
