Networking Group Boosts Business

North London accountants Harris Lipman are discovering the benefits of working with others to boost business after one of its partners joined a leading networking group.

Michael Bernstein is a member of Business Network International (BNI), where members meet each week to share ideas, network, and learn more about each others’ work.

BNI works by promoting businesses through word of mouth, so the members of a chapter become a ‘sales force’ for one another.

Referrals received by Harris Lipman through the network include an estate agency firm, which brings in fees worth £27,000 per year, and a hotel and residential lettings firm in central London who initially came to Michael Bernstein for a one-off piece of work, and have recently switched to Harris Lipman for all accountancy services.

Michael said: “We’ve got a real cross-section of businesses in our group who can help each other out by promoting fellow members to our own contacts and associates. It’s a very simple concept – if someone generates business for you, you want to do the same for them, and everyone wins as a result.

“It’s also an opportunity to hone your own skills, as you have to give a one-minute presentation each week on what your firm is doing and what business it is looking for, which really focuses your mind on your business in a way that wouldn’t happen otherwise, while the network also operates some excellent training courses on how to network and run presentations.”
