Chartered Accountants & Insolvency Practitioners

History of Harris Lipman

Harris Lipman was established in 1954 by Mr Solomon Lipman, and in that time has expanded from a staff of one to a Limited Liability Partnership at the forefront of technology development and corporate services. Regrettably, Mr Lipman died in September 1998, but the practice has very much continued the philosophy set by him over 50 years ago - total client involvement, a friendly working environment and the emphasis on client service.

In addition to the firm’s long standing tax and auditing services, the recession years of the early '90s demanded a huge expansion of the insolvency department and in 1998, the opportunity arose for the practice to acquire an insolvency office in Cardiff. The team has now grown to 50, operating from both satellite offices and the main office in Whetstone, North London. The strength of the team was augmented by the admission to the Partnership of Neville Chajet in November 2007 and Michael Bernstein in August 2008, bringing client bases, expertise and experience to our well-established team. In April 2009, Russell Whitlock was promoted to partner after six years with the firm while in October of that year, Kash Kurup joined us, bringing with him the skills, knowledge and experience he had gained in 22 years at a similar-sized practice.

Today, our multi-branch team offers long-term personal and business tax strategies for growing businesses, business plans to raise further finance, systems to cope with legislation and assistance in the budgeting and forecasting process to allow our clients to manage their personal affairs.

At Harris Lipman, staff motivation is key part of maintaining high standards. We have established the Solomon Lipman Memorial Prize, awarded annually to the most outstanding team member as voted for by their peers. The prize includes a donation of £1,000 to the recipient’s choice of charity.

What’s more, the dedication of our partners can be seen in our award winning results. In 2001 the firm won a WOW Award for client service and also the Best Practice for a 2-4 Partner Firm Award. In 2002, the firm won the Innovation award at the National Customer Service Awards. We became an LLP on 1st April 2005 recognising the need to operate a modern business structure.

Due to the continuing but controlled expansion of the practice, the firm was ranked in the top 80 in the 2008 and 2009 Accountancy Age league tables of leading accountancy practices and was also designated as "one to watch".

We continue to develop our team and never lose sight of our vision, mission statement and team commitment to our clients.
