Mr L was treasurer and trustee of a charity which provided respite care for carers who devote their time to looking after sick or disabled relatives. By taking charge of the adults or children they looked after for a few days, the carer was able to enjoy some valuable time to themselves.

Unfortunately, when money from the local authority began to dry up and alternative funding sources failed to yield significant revenue, the trustees eventually reached the point where they knew they did not have the money to continue.

Since they knew they would need outside help in winding up the charity, the trustees sought advice from contacts of theirs and Harris Lipman were recommended to them. A meeting was arranged with Michael Levene, who came to see the trustees, and explained how the liquidation would work.

Mr L said: “Michael came down to see us straight away and was very helpful in the first meeting. As trustees, we were obviously all upset by what had happened and we had had to make 50 people redundant, so it was a difficult time, but Michael was very supportive in helping us to move on from what had happened and concentrate on what we now had to do.

“Michael was on hand to advise us on the best way forward throughout the liquidation process and he helped us to deal with all the paperwork that was involved. It was then a matter of dealing with our assets to give a return to our creditors, which is still going on now.”

Fort he charity, closing down was a traumatic time for everyone but Mr L said Harris Lipman’s support made the process as painless as it could have been.

He added: “Harris Lipman really helped to make the process as easy as it could have been – they were very down-to-earth and took a realistic approach to what could be done, keeping us up to speed all the way through.

“Having Michael as a named contact to deal with throughout undoubtedly made the process easier and he was
a great help to all of us.”
