As with any specialist sector, legal firms have their own particular requirements on the financial front, and it pays to have an accountant who understands their business.

Hancock Quins Solicitors, based in Watford, offers a full range of services including wills, trust and probate, family law, litigation and conveyancing, and rely on Harris Lipman partner Michael Bernstein to ensure their finances are fully in order at all times.

Having been with Michael since before his Harris Lipman days, Hancock Quins moved to the practice with him in August 2008.

Partner Anthony Irving said: “We’d had other accountants before Michael but they provided a less comprehensive service – they would answer our specific questions but didn’t tell us everything we needed to know.

“Michael is far more proactive, which is what we like, so when he moved to Harris Lipman it was an easy decision to go with him – and we’ve continued to receive the same good service since then.

“As solicitors, we have to have a specific Law Society-approved audit, and Michael takes care of that for us, as well as completing the partners’ tax returns and helping us out with any other financial questions or business advice that we may need from time to time.”

Anthony meets with Michael two or three times a year to review how the business is doing, but knows he is always available by phone or email if he needs to contact him at any other time.
